why everyone falls in love with Valais sheep
Sure, Valais may be world-famous for their faces - but what's really irresistible isn't the curls or the little black knee patches. It's the way a Valais Blacknose leans into your hand, into your face, the way they just want to be with you. They're the rare breed that's as lovely to live with as they are to look at: the gentle temperament, the fleece you can't stop touching, the face that makes you smile every single time. The flock that quietly becomes your happy place - a kind of second home.

about our family farm
Tucked away on a quiet farm in Ontario, our little flock of Valais Blacknose have captured our hearts, right from the time we lambed our first Valais in 2022. One look at those little faces, one nuzzle from an inquisitive little lamb, and that was it for us! Cared for by family, our lambs, living right outside our windows and under our constant watch and care, are gently tended to from their very first tender days. Breeding for the whole sheep: the dense curl, the bold markings, the sound little frames — and most of all their endearing, people-loving nature — every lamb born on our farm is raised to become the heart of someone else's dreamy flock.

some of the rarest sheep you've ever met
Tracing this rare breed back to Switzerland's Upper Valais region as far back as the 15th century, the Valais Blacknose grazed the steepest slopes of the snowy Alps , before nearly disappearing in the early 1900s.But! A handful of resourceful, committed Swiss shepherds banded together in 1948, and now, globally, there are fewer than 30,000 Valais, while in Canada, you can count the registered breeders on just two hands. For most of their history, you couldn't find Valais sheep outside Switzerland. While the UK recieved its first imports in 2014, the first purebred Valais Blacknose lambs were only born in North America, in 2021, in Oregon, and the first in Canada arrived that same spring. What makes Valais sheep truly extraordinary isn't only their rarity -- it's their temperament. Unlike most mountain breeds with a sharp fight-or-flight reflex, Valais Blacknose are so curious and friendly, that hikers in the Swiss Alps describe trying to grab a snapshot of gorgeous Valais flocks, only to give up, because the Valais just keep happily sauntering right up to the lens and filling the whole frame with their unforgettable faces! Swiss shepherds say their sheep have "a memory for places, and a sense of time far better than people."Meet a Valais, the Swiss say, and you have a friend
for all of your days!
